Flowering Fiesta
A LIVELY GARDEN CELEBRATION

Get out your sombrero, it's time to celebrate! This perennial garden will exhibit the vitality of a fiesta with intense, bright colors throughout the summer, no matter which region you live in. These "fiery" colors, primarily reds and yellows at their greatest intensity, can be placed in an area of the landscape that may seem drab and needs brightening. The yellows of Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' and Heleopsis 'Summer Sun' will contrast well with the reds of Monarda 'Gardenview Scarlet' and Phlox 'Starfire'. A few plants, such as Achillea 'Moonshine', are slightly softer to provide some transition between flowers. These plants need full sun to flower most prolifically, although a few can tolerate light shade. All need good drainage, and most are somewhat tolerant of dry conditions. So get out of your hacienda, amigo, and enjoy your own garden party.

helpful hints
  • Substitute Penstemson 'Scarlet Queen' for Physostegia 'Vivid', and this could be a Zone 4 collection.
  • Plant this garden in the sunniest location of your yard for best performance.
  • Add in crimson, fall-color shrubs like Burning Bush or spring-blooming border Forsythia to add to the excitement.
  • Planting with a posthole digger makes it a quick and easy task.
