ATTRIBUTES Cultivar Notes - White Gloria (Weisse Gloria) Snow white flowers on dense, pyramidal plumes. Blooms in early summer. Shiny, dark green foliage provides tremendous contrast for the light-colored plumes. Species Notes - Astilbe arendsii The largest group of hybrids named for hybridizer Georg Arends. This group comprises some of the oldest and original hybridized varieties, yet they remain some of the more popular in production. Generally taller varieties and early blooming. Zone 3-8. Genus Notes - Astilbe If you’re looking for summer color in shade, you need Astilbes. They produce feathery plumes in red, white, and pink after most other shade plants have finished flowering. For best results, plant in soil that doesn’t dry out completely. Astilbe produce large plumes in varius sizes and shapes. Each plume consists of hundreds of tiny flowers, each opening in succession, providing a long season of bloom. Plumes make excellent fresh cuts or for drying in natural bouquets. Astilbe grow best in moist soils and semi-shade. Will tolerate more sun with adequate moisture. Excellent for the woodland garden. Plant in mass for a stunning display. |
