Cultivar Notes -
spectabilis
A classic charmer! One of the oldest but still irreplacable perennials in cultivation. Old-fashioned Bleeding Hearts form large, bushy clumps of powdery-green foliage comprised of cut or lobed leaves on fleshy stems.
Genus Notes -
Dicentra
No shade garden is complete without a patch of Bleeding Hearts. Their long-lasting flowers and fern-like foliage are delightful, and their easygoing diposition is a real boon to busy gardeners.

Dicentra is an old time favorite for the shade garden characterized by dangling heart-shaped flowers in spring. Dicentra grow best in filtered sunlight in well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Plants have a tendency to go dormant in the heat of summer or if the soil becomes too dry. To help maintain summer foliage, keep soil evenly moist and provide more shade.
