Cultivar Notes -
Chinese Broadleaf (Garlic)
Has long stems with dark green, star-shaped leaves. Typically used in Chinese and Japanese soups, salads and stir-fries. Also used in egg dishes. Noted for its more garlicy taste when compared to Western chives.
Genus Notes -
Allium
Alliums are charming plants for the rock or herb garden. When the foliage is bruised, it smells like onions since they are in the onion family. Butterflies and honeybees adore the flowers’ sweet nectar but deer and rabbits steer clear of this perennial beauty. Prefers good loamy well-drained soil. Very drought tolerant.
