(What's my zone?)
Zone: 9 to 11Annual
|Blooms early summer to late summer|
Cultivar Notes - 'Purple Baron'
Simply majestic, 'Purple Baron's' shiny, purple-burgundy foliage is the richest, darkest of all millets. Add a vertical, contrasting punch to beds of pastel pink, white, or lavender blooming annuals. Though short, 'Purple Barron' has a full, thick, massive habit. Birds flock to its large flower spikes right up to frost.
Genus Notes - Pennisetum
These lovely grasses are favorites, distinguished by arching, feathery bottle-brush flowers spilling over a cascading mound of foliage.
Series Notes - Warm Season Grasses
Warm season grasses grow most actively during the warmer months, then flower in late summer or fall. Most go completely dormant in winter. Warm season grasses include: Andropogon, Calamagrostis brachytricha, Carex, Cortaderia, Erianthus, Hakonechloa, Miscanthus, Panicum, Pennisetum, Schizachyrium, and Sporobolus.
