Extremely ruffled, cream colored margins extend from the tip of each green leaf all the way down the petiole to the crown. This ruffled margin is evident even in the juvenile stage of the plant before vernalization. The leaves of this medium sized hosta are of excellent substance, making them slug resistant in the landscape. Light lavender flowers appear atop purple scapes in midsummer.

This sport of ‘Empress Wu’ takes the size and presence of the massively popular hosta and takes it to the next level with an attractive margin. Blue-green leaves have striking apple-green margins, as well as good substance. Like ‘Empress Wu’, this hosta will take about 5 years to reach full maturity and size. Once you get there, the size of this plant will definitely be a conversation starter! Violet flowers appear in early to midsummer.

This is definitely a hosta that you can identify without a plant tag! This unique hosta has narrow blue leaves with intensely wavy margins. The leaves are the most blue in spring; as the season progresses the leaves become more blue-green. Pale purple flowers top the plant for a perfect package. Perfect for containers or the front of the shade garden.

Like a giant 'Blue Mouse Ears', 'Silver Bullet' creates a densely packed clump of very thick, rounded blue leaves. The thick foliage provides great slug resistance. Near white flowers are held just above the foliage. While this technically meets the classification of a medium-sized Hosta, the landscape presence is more in accordance with a small Hosta.

A mature specimen of the giant Hosta ‘Victory’ is a triumphant accomplishment and commands attention in the landscape. Be sure to start this one early to give it plenty of time to mature. Though it has a good growth rate, like most giant hostas it takes some years to develop the huge leaves and distinctive variegation that makes it so special.

Shiny green leaves of good substance display yellow margins which lighten to pale yellow. The foliage is somewhat upright early in the season, forming a broad spreading mound as the season progresses. Light lavender flowers appear on very long, sideways arching scapes in early to midsummer.

‘Vulcan’ is a vigorous, white-centered sport of ‘Captain Kirk’. It has an excellent growth rate and light colored center that does not melt out. Contrasting dark green margins and lighter yellow coloring jet towards the white center of each broad, heart-shaped leaf. White scapes carry the light lavender flowers just above the foliage in mid- to late-summer.

‘Warwick Comet’ is a magnificent variety from retired hosta breeder Gil Jones. It has very dark green, cupped, heavily-corrugated leaves. Each leaf is highlighted by a dramatic, narrow, creamy-white central pattern. Clumps of Hosta ‘Warwick Comet’ are topped with near-white flowers on 2’ scapes...treating hummingbirds in late spring. This is one hosta that can't be confused with anything else in the garden even if you lose the label.

This hosta will catch your eye from quite a distance! The shiny, wavy, tapering leaves can measure 10" long and are blue/green with wide, gold margins. Quickly forms a dense, mound with a cascading habit. Lavender flowers 20" scapes in late summer.

83. Wrinkle in Time

This sport of the classic variety ‘Pilgrim’ shows a little more character with showy, wavy margins. Leaves have a single prominent wave that begins one third of the way from the leaf base. Dark green leaves have creamy yellow margins in spring, maturing to creamy white margins in summer. Gray-green color appears where the margins and centers overlap. Lavender flowers appear above the foliage in midsummer. Sizes measured are based on a five year clump. A vigorous, fast-growing variety suitable for edging or landscapes.
