Tips for Efficient Printing
Before proceeding:
  • To print more columns on a single page, print the report in Landscape mode. To do this, change your printer's 'Orientation' to Landscape in your browser's Printer Settings dialog box.
  • Hide unneeded columns (to reduce print output width) by unchecking column names in the 'View Preferences' box at the bottom of this screen. If this screen is currently in the 'Plant Images Only' view, you must first click the 'Display In List Format' checkbox before you can hide the columns you do not want to print. Your print output will match whatever you are viewing here.

Cardinal Flower Lobelia speciosa
1. Vulcan Red
Touted as an improved ‘Queen Victoria’, this selection of Lobelia forms much fuller, well-branched, strong stemmed plant with a very uniform habit.

Its deep purple foliage forms a columnar, upright clump topped with spikes of rich cardinal red flowers from midsummer into early fall. This native cultivar is a favorite of hummingbirds and butterflies.

2. Fan Blue
This sturdy and well-branched specimen produces colorful thick flower spikes adorned with graceful clusters of flowers continuously over three months.   Click to display 'Fan Blue' tag image 20"-24" 9"-15" n/a 4" Green
3. Fan Burgundy (Deep Scarlet)
This selection has a compact, bushy habit, bearing deep burgundy-red flowers through late summer and fall, over a clump of bronzy-red leaves. Excellent for using as a specimen or massing in the border, containers or tubs. Nice for cutting. Attractive to both butterflies and hummingbirds.

The perennial Lobelias have upright spikes of large flowers, not at all like the more familiar trailing types grown in hanging baskets. They are terrific plants for the boggy garden, adapting well to ‘wet feet', but growing equally well under average conditions.

8. Starship Deep Rose
Summer-flowering perennial attracts hummingbirds. Showy, mid-height plants covered with masses of flowers are ideal for containers for the center of the border. Sturdy, bushy plants are low maintenance. Produces masses of flowers.   Click to display 'Starship Deep Rose' tag image 20"-24" 12"-14" 6-10 4" Green
9. Starship Scarlet
The combination of big, wide-open, butterfly-shaped scarlet blooms and near-black stems is electrifying on this compact, free-flowering Lobelia! Starship Scarlet earns its name with the eye-catching shade of red borne on its blooms, but its merits go far beyond beauty. It is a hummingbird magnet, and because it flowers from midsummer into mid-fall, you get a longer season of winged visitors!   Click to display 'Starship Scarlet' tag image 20"-24" 8"-12" 6-10 4" Green
