Cultivar Notes - 'Luxuriant'
Cherry red, heart-shaped blooms dance charmingly above spreading mounds of ferny, blue-green foliage. This selection is everblooming, flowering most freely in spring and continuing throughout the summer and into fall.
Genus Notes - Dicentra
No shade garden is complete without a patch of Bleeding Hearts. Their long-lasting flowers and fern-like foliage are delightful, and their easygoing diposition is a real boon to busy gardeners.
Dicentra is an old time favorite for the shade garden characterized by dangling heart-shaped flowers in spring. Dicentra grow best in filtered sunlight in well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Plants have a tendency to go dormant in the heat of summer or if the soil becomes too dry. To help maintain summer foliage, keep soil evenly moist and provide more shade.
