Chrysanthemum
Chrysanthemums are autumn bloomers that set their flower buds only after daylight is below eight hours a day, sometimes less. To start blooming, chrysanthemums need undisturbed darkness during the night–not even a flashlight can be set on them! True perennials in their natural environments, they enjoy full sun locations all summer long for good growth.

Originating in ancient Asia, these enchanting blossoms have an illustrious past that dates back over 2,500 years. Today, chrysanthemums are a cherished part of gardens, floral arrangements and even cuisine around the world.

In recent years, the genus Chrysanthemum has been split up by taxonomists, then partially reconstituted. Today, fall Mums are Chrysanthemums again, but Shasta Daisies remain in Leucanthemum, and Painted Daisies have taken up residence in Tanacetum.
