Cultivar Notes -
Empress of India
Unique, deep blue-green leaves are the perfect background for the dazzling, long-spurred 2 1/2" scarlet blooms. Compact plants only 1 ft. high are superb for hanging baskets and mixed plantings in kitchen gardens. Blooms until frost. GARDEN HINTS: Use as companion plants for cabbage, cucumbers and herbs. Helps in repelling whitefly and cabbage caterpillars.
Species Notes -
Tropaeoleum majus
Indeed, the jewel of the garden! Peppery nasturtium blossoms are an elegant touch to salads, or try lining the plates of appetizers with the pretty leaves. Nasturtium in the garden is known to deter garden pests while attracting pollinators.
