ATTRIBUTES Cultivar Notes - Springwood White Low spreading shrub with linear, dark green leaves. White flowers, January-May. Bright green foliage. Species Notes - Erica carnea One of the hardiest of Heathers, Erica carnea is native to the Alps of Central Europe. It is favored for its early bloom and evergreen presence and forms eye-catching mats of pink, white, purple, or red blooms which are at their best with the early spring bulbs such as crocus, daffodils and dwarf irises. A low and quick grower, it creates attractive groundcovers that are perfect at smothering weeds. The evergreen foliage is needle-like. Genus Notes - Erica Heaths have fine, short, needlelike evergreen leaves that vary from deep green to silver, gold, or chartreuse. Tiny, urn-shaped flowers sparkle like hoarfrost, in shades from white to pinks and rosy purples. Though most floriferous in winter and early spring, (and highly welcome at that dreary time!), a scheme for year-round color can be developed by combining with Callunas. |
