Tips for Efficient Printing
Before proceeding:
  • To print more columns on a single page, print the report in Landscape mode. To do this, change your printer's 'Orientation' to Landscape in your browser's Printer Settings dialog box.
  • Hide unneeded columns (to reduce print output width) by unchecking column names in the 'View Preferences' box at the bottom of this screen. If this screen is currently in the 'Plant Images Only' view, you must first click the 'Display In List Format' checkbox before you can hide the columns you do not want to print. Your print output will match whatever you are viewing here.

Hydrangea (Oakleaf)Hydrangea quercifolia
1. Gatsby Gal®
Click to display
A little smaller than other H. quercifolia, but with impressively large flowers, and lots of them. Full panicles of pure white blooms are held upright above the foliage. The flowers are quite large relative to the plant's compact size and make this plant a great choice for smaller gardens.

2. Gatsby Glow Ball®
Click to display
Gatsby Glow Ball oakleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia) opens up a wide range of landscape possibilities. It is a compact native shrub with oversized leaves and massive, ball-shaped white flowers that mature to lime green. Its fall foliage is a blend of dramatic burgundies and red tones. We also love the crisp, clean white of the blooms which age to a refreshing glowing green color.

Ideal for low hedges, groupings, or woodland edges. You have to grow it and see it for yourself to truly appreciate what an improvement it is over other quercifolias. Another superb innovation from Dr. Tom Ranney of NCSU and his team.

3. Gatsby Moon®
Click to display
Tightly packed florets are fuller than those of other oakleaf hydrangeas.

This is a distinctive, showy take on our beloved native oakleaf hydrangea. Doubled florets are similar to those of ‘Harmony’, but more weather-resistant. The tightly packed, pure white florets create very full, conical panicles with a unique ‘quilted’ effect. As the bloom ages, it turns a nice shade of green that lasts through most of the summer.

4. Gatsby Pink®
Click to display
A remarkable new oakleaf that boasts big showy blooms which quickly transform from pure white to an incredibly rich pink. The dark green foliage turns mahogany-red in autumn. Another great plant developed by Powell Gardens of Kingsville, MO. Native.

5. Ruby Slippers
Click to display
A lovely plant whose white summer flowers quickly turn pale pink, then deep to rose, and are held upright above the foliage. Flowers may reach 9 inches in length. The dark green foliage turns mahogany-red in fall. The compact habit and large upright inflorescences make it well-suited to residential gardens. Developed by the US National Arboretum from a cross of ‘Snow Queen’ and ‘Pee Wee’.
