Cultivar Notes -
Sizzle & Spice™ Hot Paprika
This beautiful red Coreopsis forms a compact, rounded, uniform mound. 1.5”, rich, deep red flowers cover the bright green, threadleaf foliage for a showy midsummer display.
Series Notes -
Sizzle & Spice™
Heat up your summer garden with SIZZLE & SPICE™ Coreopsis, a new line of Threadleaf Coreopsis from Walters Gardens, Inc. hybridizing. Members of this collection have compact, rounded habits that are covered with flowers from early to late summer. With bright colors like red, orange, and yellow, these varieties will capture your attention in the garden and on your retail shelves alike.
Genus Notes -
Coreopsis
Koris and opsis, Greek for "bug" and "like", were combined to name Coreopsis after its seed’s similarity to a small bug. With a magnifying glass, it is possible to distinguish each of the approximately 100 species by the seed alone.

The manner in which each species presents its flowers indicates the nature of its habitat in the wild. Those with flowers held close to a mass of foliage are found in open woods and clearing. Those with flowers held high above the foliage on long stems are found in prairies and thickets--this formation allows the flowers to reach above grasses and other competing vegetation so that they may win the attention of pollinators.

Wonderfully low-maintenance yet high-performance plants, Coreopsis grow in almost any well-drained soil, bloom like annuals, and make delightful cut flowers. All they need is lots of sun. Shear off the spent blossoms to keep more coming.
