2013 Spring Seminars
We are excited to present the following seminars this spring at Vite Greenhouses. Each seminar is FREE to attend. Signup is not mandatory but will help us have a feel for how much seating to provide.
- Tips and Plants for Shade Gardening; Saturday, April 27 @ 10 AM
Presented by Stan Beikmann of Beikmann Associates, this seminar will focus on different methods for preparing a shade garden, what to grow under trees, how to get a bit of color - especially contrasts of textures and foliages - and what kinds and varieties of plants to use.
Stan has over 35 years of landscaping experience. In addition to his landscape design business Beikmann Associates, Stan is currently Assistant Professor of Horticulture and Landscape Design at Andrews University. He was formerly the executive director of Fernwood Botanic Gardens and is a member of the Garden Writers Association of America.
- Room to Bloom Container Workshop; Saturday, May 4 @ 10 AM; Wednesday, May 8 @ 6pm
If you love the containers you see here or in magazines, but don't know how to design them yourself now is your chance to learn. Creating your own container can bring summer-long enjoyment to your home and patio. We grow thousands of containers every year and we would like to share some of our knowledge so you can grow your own masterpiece. We will look at container types, plant characteristics, light requirements, watering and summer maintenance. If you bring your own container you can plant it in our planting area using the same growing mix that we use, or you can purchase an empty container from us for a special price of 15% off the listed price for seminar attendees. Your cost will be for the plants and materials you use.
- Herb Gardening; Saturday, May 18 @ 10 AM
Master Gardener Debbie DeShone is returning to Vite Greenhouses to present her popular seminar on herb gardening. Debbie has been growing and preparing herbs for over 25 years, and she will share her knowledge with you. She will talk about varieties of herbs, how to grow them and what you can do with herbs. She will also share some delicious recipes that will allow you to use herbs all year long.
